Mahesh Chander being son of World renown living legend Singer and composer of Sindhi Music, have been a permanent part of his father’s entourage whenever he went in or outside India to present cultural programs or live concerts at various places, Like Colombo, Singapore, Indonesia, Hongkong, Japan, Manila etc. in order to recreate people’s renewed interest in Sindhi Music.
It was his father Master Chander himself who could feel his hidden talent when he was a child in order to give it a impetus he used to make him stand up at various concerts and direct him to sing along with him. He was made to sing not only Sindhi Kafis but even dabble in classical music too, at that tender age.
Mahesh Chander is a house- hold name in Sindhi community and has been recipient of all major awards and felicitation among Sindhis cultural programmes in India and overseas.
Being felicitated at all major Sindhi award functions organised in India and overseas with major being awarded by Shri Mohan Bhagwat Chief of RSS in Bhopal Navratna Award and being felicitated by the Governor of Maharashtra. The releasing function of (HMV), album was held at Delhi where he composed “Geet Naya Gata Hoon” scripted by Hon. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was felicitated by the Prime Minister himself….
Continuing with the trend of Sindhi music, he cut his very first EPE record in 1968 through HMV whose all the four songs were not only sung but even composed by him. Then there was no looking back aider that. He didn’t just sing Urdu or Hindi songs he made it a point to promote Sindhi music also for that he even made well- established Hindi Singers such as Asha Bhosle, Suresh Wadkar, Anup Jalota, Mahendra Kapoor, Manna-Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, C.RamChandra, Padmaja Joglekar etc sing Master Chander’s Sindhi songs at various live programs, TV or on Radio etc.
It has always remained his endeavor to promote Sindhi music, World wide and for that he concentrated on live Sindhi programs which took him to every nook and corner of the World which is continuing up to date.
‘Sur Chander Ja-Raat Chander ji’ has become an annual feature in Mumbai and Dubai, where he provide a chance to young fresh Sindhi Singers to present their talent before discerning audience. He also help them to prepare new songs based on various Sindhi Rags and notes. These artists not only sing the songs of our classical poets like Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast, and Sami but even they lend their voice to the lyrics of new Sindhi poets, too.
Then these programs are recorded live and converted into cassettes, CDs or DVDsso to reach up to wider audience, local or international.
During his earlier days of professional music he used to sing and compose mostly for Hindi or Urdu songs which included recording for Hindi films too. Like his songs for Movies “Maikhana’ or ‘Pathron ka Sheher’ etc.
Among his other popular albums are H.M.V’s *Yade Dost’ and ’Unki Yaad meri from CBS “Shab-Ke Musafir” from crescendo Co. “Jazbaat” with Sulkshana Pandit”Love Time” with Krishnamurthy from Magna sound co. Besides he also gave music form Mega films “Mera Kaun” as Hindi Film which was released in 2002.
Had he concentrated exclusively on Hindi music throughout his life. He could have acquired a larger fame and persona worldwide today, but being a son of iconic singer Master Chander, he couldn’t Shrike his responsibilities from promotion of Sindhi Music. Even in present days when he sing Sindhi Music for nights and nights he experience a heavenly bliss and pride to have contributed whatever he can for the service of Sindhi Music.
Mahesh Chander has made an indelible mark on the Sindhi music industry through their exceptional contributions spanning decades. His dedication to preserving and promoting rich Sindhi musical heritage has not only inspired countless artists but also brought national and international recognition to our country’s artistic excellence.
He has been actively performing over last 70 years in India and world- wide where Sindhis predominantly reside. He has actively brought several young and talented singers in front of audiences over years under banner of SUR CHANDER JA RAAT CHANDER JI.
At present Shri Mahesh Chander is the highest and most followed artist in the Sindhi musical fraternity and his contribution stands unmatched till date and for many years in future.
